About Amy

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying); Pronouns: she/her

If we haven’t met yet – Hi, I’m Amy!

I’m happy to call Toronto my home, and have been practicing psychotherapy in Ontario since 2023. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) practicing in Ontario and I’m committed to creating an inclusive and trauma-informed space where you feel understood, accepted, and respected.

I work with adults and elders around various concerns including (but not limited to) challenging family dynamics, relationship issues, chronic illness and cancer, grief, and depression and anxiety. Within these dynamics, I have a particular focus on first- and second-generation immigrants of East Asian backgrounds. In therapy, I walk you through the work of developing insight, improving confidence, and building resiliency.

I believe that every challenge we face holds potential for growth, and that it is possible to emerge on the other side—empowered to live more authentically to who you are and who you want to be.

Philosophy

I believe that our emotions give us valuable information about our experiences and what we need. Too often in our fast-paced, results-oriented world, our emotions are told they don’t matter, that they slow us down, or make us weak. Over time, we fall out of touch and stop listening to them.

A lot of folks (perhaps you included) come to therapy because they feel a disconnect between what they logically think and know, versus how they feel.
Maybe you look at your life and think: I should be happy and yet you’re not.
Maybe you wish to move on, and are tired of certain experiences or relationships having so much power over your life.

Through an emotion-focused lens, I understand that dissonance to mean there is some emotion that hasn’t been fully processed. Through therapy, we allow those feelings to be safely explored and expressed, which in turn allow them to be transformed and integrated into your experience.

For me, the ultimate goal of therapy is to bring your thoughts and your emotions into alignment, so you can make choices about your life from a place of authenticity.

A space for collaboration

I create a therapy space that is collaborative– meaning that both you as the client, and me as the therapist, are equally involved in deciding what therapy will look like. Every person is different, and I’m committed to tailoring our use of therapy to what would be most helpful for you.

Some folks prefer to have homework to practice strategies outside of session, whereas others want therapy to be an hour dedicated to unpacking and building insight without that focus on the practical strategies. We’ll explore and refine throughout the process of therapy—what you need from therapy in order to benefit from the experience.
